AU6983 VID = 0000 PID = 7777 Repair Fake Flash Drive Solution

FixFakeFlash – solution AU6983 controller identified with VID = 0000 PID = 7777, fake flash drive. The drive tested and repaired was from eBay Fake Flash Seller powerrangolee. Advertised as 16GB, it’s true capacity was 4GB. This fake flash drive can be repaired using the following information. It can also apply to other flash drives having the same identification.

SOSFakeFlash only sent out an alert on powerrangolee January 2nd and a solution to one of the many drive models sold has been provided by Akuzi. powerrangolee sold over 2000 when we did the last dig on his sales.

Thanks guys, i’ve spent hours and hours online trying to find out how to fix my 2 fake usb drives without any luck at all! I found a few programs that never really done much, but the information on fixfakeflash.wordpress.com helped me fix them both!
Both of the drives i got looked identical, were bought from the same seller, and were the same size, 4gb imaged to 16gb, but they had different chipsets in them. Once i found you’re site i got them both fixed in 30 minutes.

I have the same USB stick but from another ebay seller. I ran the tool but I’m being prompted to choose a flash drive model from a drop-down menu that list tons of drives (Hynix, Samsung, etc…) which one am I supposed to choose???

Hi Ken,
They may look the same, but that does not mean they are the same. Did you run chip genius to find out? I suggest you do. It is very possible that the controllers are different or the flash drive chip is not the same. In worst case senario, you might need to carefully open the drive to check what the controller and flash drive chip really is.
If the tool is set to auto and it does not recognize the flash drive, then you might need a newer version of the tool or you are using the wrong tool. You can only use the long list if you know exactly what the flash drive chip model is and if the controller is correct.

Thanks for your reply. I had checked with chipgenius which reported AU6983 VIP:0000 DIP:7777.
I don’t know how to open it though?? Besides, I wouldn’t want to risk loosing the at least 2Gb which are real. Too bad! 😦
Well if anyone has managed to fix a 16gb (silver model) USB stick sold on ebay by firstly2008, please let me know how!

Well, I finally did manage to open the USB stick without damaging it and the info I gathered from the inside the stick is ALCOR AU6983 and HYNIX H27UAG8T2MTR (googling tells me it’s in fact a 2Gb and not 16Gb!). So…what next? Because when I run the AlcorMP posted here, the closest match I get from the drop-down menu of drives is a H27UAG8T2M, the very first in the list. Then comes all the tons of advanced options in AlcorMP…what would I choose?? Hope someone can help, this is all so overwhelming to me 😦

Just a quick update–
Thanks to the person on ebay who noticed I bought a flash drive from a suspected fake drive seller, who gave me a link to this website, which as soon as the drive came I tested it with the tools suggested here. It was a fake drive and I finally got refunded for it, all thanks to this website, absolutely brilliant! I am not afraid to admit that i got my money back, and got a 4gb flash drive which works perfectly after using the tool at THIS SITE. It is the sellers fault for selling a fake drive in the first place. I thought I was buying a 16gb drive.
Anyway, this is a bad time of year, even worse if you get ripped off. If you do buy a fake flash drive then report the seller. Follow the helpful info from this site on how to report to paypal, and put the sellers name up on this website, it will help your case.

This is what I see on chipgenius, not finding any vendor info (except generic) I opened up the drive and on the rectangular chip found something like this: HVPC4F2 and 646 in the next row, the square chip had AU6983HL, Alcor does not by default detect the required info it seems.
Any suggestions, how to proceed?

Me too have had trouble with 2 disk bought on ebay, were supposed to be 16gb but were just 4gb.
the problem was they were samsung K9GAG08UOM chips and alcor AU6983 controller and afther downloading the tool alcorMP(081208) and trying it, it did not recognice the drive… all the fields stayed blank.
After downloading a lot of times the tool, and a few other alcor tools I had luck.
Between the tools i downloaded was one listed as AlcorMP6.18.rar, when i tried it a field lighted up saying: wrong listed device, i pushed start and nothing happend.
direct after this i tried an other alcor081208 and YES IT RECOGNISED THE DISK….so i could format it. Immediately after this i put on the second usb…and it did not recognice it.
So i tried again with the AlcorMP6.18 tool and again it said wrong listed device but after this once more the AlcorMP(081208) did recognice the disk after this.
So if you have the same problem with the AlcorMP(081208) try this, I hope it helps.

I think the reason for trying first, then second utility is driver.
There is a LoadDriver.exe utility in each AlcorMP tool, which has no description and I was unable to start properly.
So I tryed ALCOR-AU9386-V1.10.rar from flahboot.ru site (with already attached USB flash), which installed itself, then installed proper driver (or installed properly) – the “remove safely” icon disappeared from my tray, then system reported new device. So the driver was actually changed.
Then I started AlcorMP(090227).rar from the same site – and finally it detected my flash with the proper size (4Gb).
At the last I removed the flash and uninstalled the driver using LoadDriver.exe utility (to have “remove safely” icon appear next time)

I can’t seem to follow every instructions posted here….It’s too raw…
I have a Kingston 64GB…
INSIDE THE STICK: Alcor AU6894 (WRITTEN in the Chip)
Dynet 64G (It’s suppose to be the memory)
But ChipGenius result was:
Alcor AU6983
VID 0000 PID 7777
And none of the utilities posted here actually works or am I just doing it wrong….
Can anybody post a step by step procedure on how to reset the controller?

Go to the russian site to try and find the latest software for AU6894. Trust what is written on the chip more than what chipgenius said.
Once you find it, come back here and type visual in the search box. You should get a post with a link to a site where someone shows how low level reformatting works and the things you need to do.

Funny thing….when I tried to connect my flash drive again today…it got detected by any version of AlcorMP…How was that so?
Drive was already up and runnin…64GB -> 8GB (How SAD!?) would there be some sort of error in reprogramming the controller, say what if it was really 64GB but somehow while trying the tool I was able to downgrade the controller by mistake and made it to 8GB…is that possible?
How can you tell if it is a real 64GB (but with corrupted blocks that’s why it’s so hard for Windows to detect it) and not an 8GB flash drive…

The most reliable source for the size of the flash device is the memory chip. Quick look on the internet did not show information on Dynet. Flash memory manufactures quote bits in their specifications. So the 64G that was indicated on the chip reflects 8GBytes. (1 Byte = 8 bits).

The next step is where I wasted the most time… I tried tons of different AlcorMP programs, but none of them worked… I went into the Setup and played around with every single option to no avail. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PLAY WITH ANY SETTINGS. Once I got the right version of AlcorMP, it recognized the drive right away and I just had to push the Start button.
Where do you find the right version of AlcorMP? Its at the bottom of the ChipGenius software! I had originally clicked on this link, but once I saw Chinese I quickly abondoned the page. Don't. Scroll down and click on the AlcorMP(090227) link and it should download the program. Don't worry the program has different language settings and you can change it to english.
For this drive the Alcor program can be found at http://dl.mydigit.net/2009/0427/406.html.

i bought a 32 gb kingston data traveller it worked fine for a fw days after which i started to get some corrupted data on the usb i tried to format its says cannot be formated i trieda couple of times and it started to say its write protected i cannot run h2testw because of that tried chip genius and got the following info

You will need to open up the drive and read the labels on the chips to determine the contoller part number then you can look for repair tool

If your drive had 233mb OK before you ran disktools then the drive was not worth repairing. If the result was 233mb after running the tools then I suspect the memory was damaged (ECC Open set on during repair)

You might want to try and open the item, to check the usb flash drive storage chip and the usb control chip to find the right tool. A lot of reprogrammed fakes do not report the correct vid and pid.
Manual inspection is advised if you do not come up with a direct match. It will help you find the right low level formating tool to use. The Russion site is really great but you need to be sure about the usb controller chip and the storage chip.

hi I bought a 32gb kingston datatraveller 101 from a local retailer. the same seemed to work well initially but only after using it for a day, the same is not being recognized by the comp. the error message that i get is : pls insert a disk in the drive. i have tried changing the drive letter but to no avail.
