    interesting site but not very accurate. toshiba nand flash is not specially used for \”upgrading\” the capacity, all brands of nand flash ic can be used. rather what is key is the usb controller. micov and alcor are the 2 biggest that can be upgraded, while chipsbank not so much. this coming from a 4 year veteran of huqiangbei in shenzhen.

    The attributes that counterfeiters are looking for in memory are low cost and availability.

    As you indicated the key to creating a counterfeit is the memory controller, specially how it handles specific error conditions or how it can be modified to handle specific error conditions
